The Return of Vanishing Son
For those of you who were too young or never even heard about this series, you're in luck. As I mentioned in my previous blogs, the televised movie series Vanishing Son is one of the few movies where an Asian-American man gets romantically involved with a white woman. And not just any white woman. This was the HOT Noxema chick of the early-mid 90s who he repeatedly makes passionate love to.
As my buddy DL mentioned, it was my brotha Russell who represented and held it down for the Asian-American men out there proving, yes, Asian-American men ARE sex symbols in the country they were born in, America.
I even did the dirty work for you so you can watch the part I'm referring to when I speak of "passionate love".
Nice. I had never heard of this until now. Could it be that the industry is trying to erase it from our memories lest we start getting ideas about Asian male masculinity and attractiveness?
Why does screwing a white woman make you more masculine and desirable?
You're no better than the asian women who sometimes seek out white men to prove they are worthy.
Frankly, you're no better than anyone who chases white tail to prove a point. You're in the feedback loop - that of condemning white supremacy and whiteness yet upholding and coveting it.
In fact, you're like black men. Very often, it was the most militant of black men who would attack white men and white racism, yet turn around and make their masculinity hinge on their ability to score the love and affection of a white woman. It was the ultimate way for them to validate their manhood.
You should see all the "militant" black men who found themselves married to white women or very very light-skinned "black" women.
you're just chasing your, urm the white man's, tail.
@Anonymous: You are missing the point of this post. I don't find screwing a white woman more masculine than screwing an Asian woman. In fact, I am still have a penchant for Asian women.
There are several things that I want the readers to take away from the blog which you overlooked obviously:
1. There are Asian-American men who ARE sexy. Russell Wong the perfect blueprint. 2. This should serve as an inspiration to the Asian-American men out there who think they cannot get a beautiful woman (yes a white one too). 3. Learn Kung-Fu. Just kidding.
I'm all for images, literature and any kind of art that depicts Asian men in sexual encounters with white women. The reality is that we see so few of these partnerships in the media because it's a combination that the mainstream fears.
White men don't want to see white women being made love to by Asian men because it's too threatening and it marginalizes them. That's why any depiction of it is revolutionary and challenging.
i'm sorry (and i don't mean to offend anyone) but i don't think that white men feel threatened by seeing an asian man with a white woman. i think they may not understand the pairing. white men are more intimidated by a black man, because of his perceived (imagined) physical prowess - as in, the size of his dick makes my girl curious. they may be somewhat intimidated by an asian male's perceived (imagined) intellect. again, i think an asian male paired with any woman is thought of as a curiousity for reasons you're probably clear about.
i also find it sad that asian men insist on getting on that chasing white tail hamster wheel. getting a white woman proves nothing. why don't you stop elevating others above yourself? white women are not a/the prize. good lord, you actually believe you will be higher, on par with a white man if his woman wants you?
i'm not saying interracial relationships are bad. but when you pursue for reasons other than pure companionship, etc. to me that's unfortunate.
Anonymous, I think you've set up a straw man and completely ignored what MaSir Jones actually wrote. Nobody is saying that White women are the ultimate prize that we need to seek to prove ourselves. Nobody has said here that screwing White women makes you more masculine. MaSir Jones personally prefers Asian women for his own reasons.
The point of this post was merely to point out one of the few instances in American media where an Asian male was portrayed as being sexually desirable and available to women outside of his race, and not the awkward, nerdy stereotype. You construed that as and example of Asian men "chasing White tail" but it was meant to be an example of attraction being colorblind and an Asian male breaking some of the stereotypes of American cinema (though nevertheless falling back on the kung-fu stereotype).
"i'm sorry (and i don't mean to offend anyone) but i don't think that white men feel threatened by seeing an asian man with a white woman."
No offence taken by me! I agree that white men are threatened by black men, and that's why there is so much posturing about dick size in white culture, and that's why white culture has an apparently pathological need to place white men's sexual prowess above that of Asian men.
It's the mainstream's worst nightmare, that a white woman would crave the attention of an Asian man - which is something that more and more are starting to do.
One thing I've learned from my personal experiences of dating non-Asian women, is that white men are extremely threatened by it, and will often openly harass those Asian men and non-Asian women that engage in it.
So no-one is saying that we should pursue inter-racial relationships for any other reason than honest companionship, but that those relationships are in fact a major threat to the masculinity of white men.

I couldn't agree with you more on this one. I once read somewhere that Asian Playboy got shit for hitting on these white girls at this bar down in Texas. If they didn't see it as a threat as you profess Anonymous, I highly doubt that the guy would've made such a comment.
Notice how even the latest Shymalan's "The Last Airbender" doesn't have an Asian lead protagonist role even though the movie takes place in an Asian setting.
But they don't feel threatened...
Riiiight.
I'll be the first to admit that I've felt threatened when I see white men dating Asian women all over these joints.
White men seek relationships for a myriad of reasons other than companionship (sex, friends with benefits, swinging, etc.). If the white man is able to do that, then the Asian American man can do it too.
Nice.

ReplyDeleteIf Russell/Jian Wa is your brother, then you must be WAGO!!!
Seriously, that was a great show. I only saw it maybe once, but Wago was my favorite character--dude always had a trick up his sleeve.
